AMD's upcoming server socket, G34, will not be a perfect square like we are all used to. The 1974 pin count socket will be the basis for AMD's upcoming eight and twelve core Opteron processors. AMD's X8, as I am unofficially naming it, will simply be an MCM of two 45nm Shanghai cores while the Opteron X12 will be known as the Magny-Cours. DailyTech has a diagram of the processor/socket full of GD&T and other engineering craziness. The "M" in circles at the top and bottom of the diagram mean "Maximum Material Condition," in case you were wondering. The crosshairs refer to the position/location of said dimensions.
